Instructions: Replacing ZIS/GXP crank bolt assembly

1. Three styles of GXP crank bolts you might find on Zinn cranks:
Left: domed bolt head with 10mm (⅜” will also work) hex-key hole in cap
Center: flat bolt head with 10mm (⅜” will also work) hex-key hole in cap
Right: domed bolt head with 16mm (same size as ⅝”) hex-key hole in cap

2. Put the washer into the crank arm first. This is critical; there MUST be a washer under the bolt!

3. Grease the bolt threads using a high-quality bicycle component grease.

4. Drop the bolt into the crank arm through the washer.

5. Grease the underside of the cap (so the bolt head will slide smoothly against it and push the arm off as the bolt is unscrewed).

6. Tighten the cap into the threads in the crank arm over the bolt and washer. This requires either a 10mm (or ⅜”) hex key, or a 16mm (or ⅝”) hex key. That’s it!
