|Zinn Cycles and the Boulder Center for Sports Medicine team up to offer you the world’s best bike fit|
|The 3d bike fitting at BCSM is not required to buy a Zinn bike. You can order from anywhere in the world without coming to Colorado. Just use the instructions on our measurements page to submit your measurements. You can upgrade your fitting on any Zinn bike to a full 3d fitting at Boulder Center for Sports Medicine. All Zinn frames include a standard fitting. Lennard Zinn has been making great-fitting and performing custom bicycles for over 30 years (since 1981). Dr. Andy Pruitt is renowned as the world’s best bike fitter, and has been fitting professional athletes on their bikes for years. Together they form a partnership unequaled in the bicycle business to provide you with the very best fit and comfort available on a bicycle – and on a Zinn bicycle that performs like no other. You will never regret having allowed Andy Pruitt and his team at the Boulder Center for Sports Medicine to work their magic with you and your Zinn bike. You’ll discover the comfort and efficiency that you’ve only dreamt of and that until now only was only available to top professional cyclists.|
|Boulder Center for Sports Medicine|
|Without equal in his work with elite athletes, Dr. Pruitt has been taking care of some of the world’s best cyclists, triathletes, skiers, runners, and climbers since the 1970s. He created the Boulder Center for Sports Medicine (BCSM) to offer the kind of care and services that heretofore had been available only to professional athletes. Pruitt pioneered the use of high-speed video-capture technology in bike fitting decades ago and has been refining the science of 3D bike fit ever since. His book, Andy Pruitt’s Medical Guide for Cyclists is the bible for those seeking peak performance on the bike.
Nearly half of the world’s top-tier professional cycling teams depend on Pruitt to fly to Europe and fit their riders to their team bikes and work with them on positioning nuances on the velodrome or on the cobbles of Paris-Roubaix to find every bit of speed possible. It has become commonplace that the podium at the end of the Tour de France or Paris-Roubaix is composed of riders that Pruitt has set up on their bicycles.
Many professional bike fitters, Lennard Zinn included, are very good at optimizing a rider’s position in the X-Y plane (i.e., from the side, including saddle height and fore-aft, crank length, and handlebar reach and drop). However, dialing in the rider’s third dimension, the Z-plane, is the area that Andy Pruitt pioneered and continues to be the world leader in. The tracking of the knee, pedaling stance width, and the inward/outward tip (supination/pronation) of the foot on the pedal are critical to power output and injury prevention, and nobody adjusts these variables better than Pruitt and his team. These corrections also improve the rider’s position in the X-Y plane.
The Boulder Center for Sports Medicine 3D Fit always includes electronic data capture of the rider before and after on the bike. When required, staff will digitize the motion of the hips, legs, and feet during pedaling using the high-speed Infrared 3D Vicon Motus video-capture motion-analysis system. The resulting moving stick diagrams on the computer screen show tracking of the hips, knees and feet in three dimensions in space. BCSM staff makes precise corrections to the shoes, saddle and handlebars where needed to optimize the tracking of the joints, and the rider can observe on the computer screen the difference between his or her optimized and initial pedaling motion.
As designer of the Specialized Body Geometry shoe system as well as working in conjunction with Dr. Roger Minkow on the development of Specialized Body Geometry saddles and grips, Pruitt seemingly works magic with how the rider is supported on the saddle, in their shoes, and on their handlebar. This also corrects problems in the X-Y plane; a bike fitter can work all they want at getting a rider to look good on the bike from the side, but if the rider is not sitting on the correct shape saddle that is properly fitted to them and has his or her feet and hands supported properly, his or her efforts will be in vain. Without the prober support at the butt, feet, and hands, the rider will be lacking in comfort and efficiency, will be inviting injury, and will never look great on the bike from any angle.
|Gold Medal Treatment|
|The full Zinn/BCSM “Gold Medal” treatment consists of an initial morning measurement and discussion session with Lennard Zinn, after which he designs a bicycle for you and emails it to BCSM. That afternoon, you go to BCSM for an orthopedic evaluation of your body and positioning on an infinitely-adjustable computer-controlled stationary fit cycle starting with the initial bike-fit dimensions Zinn provides. BCSM then informs Lennard of the details of the optimized position, which allows him to not only make any recommended adjustments to the frame design and crank length before production but also allows us to equip the bike with the proper pedal-spindle length and cleat type, saddle shape, and handlebar shape for you.
We schedule your bike completion to coincide with a final appointment for you at BCSM. When the bike is done, you and it go to BCSM for finalization and optimization of your fit on your new Zinn bike. Lennard Zinn (or one of the Zinn staff if he’s unavailable) accompanies you to your appointment at BCSM and is on hand to make any necessary adjustments or substitutions to your bike to finalize your optimized fit.
Typically, the first appointment at BCSM is around two hours and the follow-up appointment is about an hour. This complete service adds $700 to the price of the bike. Our customers rave about how well-spent this is! If you have medical issues that BCSM can address, some of this cost may be covered by insurance.
|Silver Medal Treatment|
|If scheduling or finances don’t allow working with BCSM on both the front and back end of your bike production cycle, you can get most of the same benefit by doing either the initial (on the digital size cycle) or final 3D fitting (on your new Zinn bike) at BCSM. This appointment includes a medical evaluation and typically takes around two hours. It adds $525 to the price of the bike; if you have medical issues that BCSM can address, some of this cost may be covered by insurance.|
|BCSM not only has Pruitt and his team’s expertise at your disposal, but as part of Boulder Community Hospital, it offers radiology, physical therapy, and a full range of medical services. BCSM also has a full coaching staff, should you want a coaching program and regular follow-up to realize your cycling goals.
If you know you have medical issues you want addressed, let us know from the beginning so that we can make sure that Pruitt himself can work with you. There is no better diagnostician of orthopedic issues than Pruitt; find out why many of the best athletes in the world drop everything and come to see Pruitt to figure out what ails them and how best to treat it.
