Dear Lennard,This week the weather turned. It’s 75 degrees here and I’ve just returned from an outdoor ride on the custom titanium gravel e-bike. And what a ride. I think that I’d forgotten how much fun it is to ride outside.I love the bike. Love the build. The welds are a work of art. The tubeless tires took some getting used to, because I didn’t understand the maintenance that I was undertaking. Now that I’ve gotten that straightened out, thanks to a local shop, I appreciate riding on our bumpy Texas roads at 75 psi. and the fit is wonderful. Every time I ride in the drops I marvel at how well the bike fits.And the e-bike just makes it that much better. Articles describe them as “game changers” and “magic carpets.” I think it’s a “fountain of youth.” I can ride at speeds that I haven’t achieved in 20 years. And it was a life saver one day. Shortly after it arrived, I rode it in the 2023 TX MS150. I know that you shouldn’t ride a new bike on a long ride. But I did. And thanks to the fit the bike was no problem.But the problem that we had – and I hate to use four-letter words – was the wind. Saturday’s ride routed us directly into headwinds of 23 mph, with gusts to 34 mph. That bike got me through the Saturday ride, despite winds and Afib. So it was a game changer that day. By contrast, Sunday, with a 5 mph tailwind, the ride was a delight.I thought that we had the Afib beata couple months later. But last week my cardio electrophysiologist told me that I’m back out of rhythm. Atrial flutter this time? Back on energy-sapping Amiodarone and scheduled for a Cardioversion in a few weeks. Hoping for the best. But in the meantime I can stay on the road, thanks to you, Nick, and your team.
