The Dolomite is our custom rim brake road bike. Its incomparable durability, weight, and performance allow this Zinn bike to stand head and shoulders above the competition. We designed The Dolomite for cable or hydraulic rim brakes and a tapered fork. It features custom cable routing for electronic shifting component groups and standard mechanical and wireless shifting systems.

Zinn Custom Bikes can be built with titanium to provide a perfect balance of strength, stiffness, durability, and lightness. As titanium is half the weight of steel, Zinn can construct bikes with larger diameter tubing for big guys without increasing frame weight. And for smaller people, titanium provides a lightweight and compliant ride that will not subject your body to shock and vibrations over a long trek. The exact tube dimensions are specified for each customer to ensure the best possible balance of these attributes. Anyone who has ever shopped for a bicycle knows many different types of bike frames exist. Two of the most popular options for bike frame materials are titanium and steel. Titanium frames are known for their strength and durability, and they also have the added benefit of being corrosion-resistant. In terms of comfort, titanium frames tend to be more pliant than steel frames, meaning they absorb road vibration and small bumps more effectively. Titanium is often used in aircraft construction because it is durable and lightweight. However, titanium has several other advantages that make it ideal for use in bicycles as well. For example, the inside of titanium tubing is naturally resistant to rust and corrosion, making it easy to route cables internally. Lennard Zinn is one of the world’s leading experts on big and tall bikes, including bikes for petite women and cyclists with injuries. He has been designing and building great bikes for these groups since 1982, and his experience is unmatched. He has worked closely with Dr. Andy Pruitt, who specializes in tailoring bikes to the needs of cyclists with injuries, reduced mobility, and many other ailments. In addition to his work with Dr. Pruitt, Lennard has also spent a great deal of time researching and testing different materials and components to improve the performance and durability of big and tall bikes. As a result of his efforts, Lennard’s bikes are some of the best-performing and most durable in the world.
The Problem with an Ill-Fitting Bike
Most people don’t think about it, but bicycles are not one size fits all. Many factors determine the best bike for an individual, including height, weight, and riding style. For tall or big people, finding a bike that fits can be even more challenging. It is not as simple as just scaling up a “normal” sized frame and calling it good. If all you do is scale, several things happen to the bike that can cause the rider to become uncomfortable or even sustain injury. A properly designed custom frame takes all of the critical factors into account so that the rider can have a bike that fits them perfectly and rides just like they expected.
For starters, when you stretch bike frame tubes, they become less stiff and lead to high-speed frame shimmy. The shimmy is a dangerous and frustrating by-product of poorly designed bikes. Second, adding heavier frame material and thicker tubes increases overall weight and will not eliminate the shimmy. Third, the proper dimensions are critical for the overall comfort of big and tall riders. And fourth, to prevent an unnatural feel while pedaling, you must customize the crank lengths.

Add S&S Couplers for easy travel
S&S Couplers are the industry standard for bike travel. If you’re looking to turn your bike into a travel bike, we can add S&S couplings to your frame. The process is easy and results in an incredible travel bike that breaks down into sections and fits into an airline regulation travel case. Depending on frame size, we can add two or four couplers. Bigger bikes need four couplers, and smaller bikes can get away with just two. S&S Couplers do not reduce the strength of the frame one bit. Quite the opposite – well-made couplings are strong, more so than any other point in the tube. Trust us to build your next travel bike – you won’t be disappointed.
At Zinn Cycles, we know that not all bikes fit seamlessly into an airline regulation case. Bikes like 29ers, touring bikes, road bikes, and e-bikes may fit into a standard case but may need a secondary option to carry more bike parts.
